CFVI Receives $100,000 Donation for Cancer Support Virgin Islands from Generous Donor Kym Rapier
(U.S. Virgin Islands) - The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) has received $100,000 from a long-time philanthropist and cancer survivor, Kym Rapier. Recognizing the many challenges that cancer patients across the U.S. Virgin Islands experience when faced with such a devastating diagnosis, Kym Rapier recently committed this generous donation to the Cancer Support Virgin Islands (CSVI) Fund. CSVI is an organization dedicated to helping patients get the care they need to fight their battle with cancer.
On December 15th, when Rapier’s $100,000 check was presented to CFVI, President Dee Baecher-Brown, who explained, “Thanks to generous donations like this, V.I. cancer patients can access financial support and care to help them manage the challenges that impact their entire family when they are diagnosed. We would not be able to help without the amazing support of people like Kym.”
Rapier is a dedicated philanthropist who seeks to inspire a giving spirit in others. Whether the donation is monetary or the contribution of a few hours of someone’s time, she believes that each of us can make a difference. Rapier says “Giving in any way should be contagious. Once one person does it, hopefully everybody will hop in.”

CSVI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to work with patients, medical institutions, and community organizations in the USVI to support those affected by cancer. They provide outreach, education, advocacy, financial assistance, and other resources that support cancer patients. Since 2005 CSVI has provided over 2500 grants exceeding $2.3 million dollars. 100 % of the funds go directly to cancer patients in the USVI.
CFVI is a community foundation established in 1990 to ensure the highest quality of life for both present and future generations. CFVI’s priorities are to focus resources on addressing needs not met by public funding sources; support innovative programs and projects that show promise of developing into long term responses to the needs of children, youth and families; work to promote long term responses to problems and challenges in the community; and act in partnership with others who share its commitment to the people of the Virgin Islands.
